Getting Started with Neurofeedback with Z-score training: John Demos presenter
Neurofeedback is a comprehensive system that promotes change at the cellular level of the brain and empowers the client to use his or her mind as a tool for change and growth. Neurofeedback training promotes a state of focused relaxation that benefits trainees in many ways. A list of potential benefits as recorded by peer reviewed journals may be found at www.isnr.org (Comprehensive Neurofeedback Bibliography). A growing number of health care providers are convinced that neurofeedback interventions are an essential part of overall client care and lasting wellness. Consequently, some have made neurotherapy their primary treatment modality, whereas others have made it a part of a larger clinical practice.

TARGET AUDIENCE (Who should participate?)
Our program is designed for health care professionals who are state certified or licensed in their chosen field including: medical and naturopathic doctors as well as psychologists, social workers, counselors, physical/occupational therapists, registered nurses, chiropractors, credentialed special education teachers and school counselors working in a school environment. Others who may not meet the above qualifications; but may also benefit from this training, include graduate students, as well as the staff of a neurofeedback practice. Specific questions about certification should be directed to BCIA.

How can I prepare?
Read Part I of the book: Getting Started with Neurofeedback. It will lay the groundwork for the information you will soon be processing and later using in a clinical setting. The practice of neurofeedback has numerous technical terms. A few short hours of reading will help you to absorb what is to come (Please bring your book to the workshop). Please read Cory Hammonds article http://www.isnr.org/uploads/whatisnfb.pdf. Watch the following YouTube presentations: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfJdJxDtTdk&feature=player_embedded and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGtrPbQEpgM&feature=player_embedded

COURSE PURPOSE (Workshop summary)
John N Demos, author of Getting Started with Neurofeedback, is the primary presenter. His 4-day BCIA (EEG) accredited workshop is the first step in the certification process. It has been designed to meet the 36-hours of required learning outlined by BCIA. This workshop covers the foundation and rationale for neurofeedback. You will learn the history of neurotherapy and how it has evolved into present day clinical practice as well as the basics of assessment, treatment planning, and training with neurofeedback equipment. Attendees will be given an understanding of the electrical activity of the brain and how it influences cognition and behavior. Most participants report they are able to begin basic Z-score training after the workshop.

EQUIPMENT:
Participants will be introduced to BrainMaster (Atlantis & Discovery) training and assessment equipment.  Workshop manual is augmented with a field manual that will be used after the workshop.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The participant will be able to:

  1. 1. Record and tabulate the EEG from various International 10-20 locations
        with EEG biofeedback equipment.
    2. Identify the normal EEG by interpreting 2-dimensional graphics.
    3. Identify EEG signatures or brain wave patterns that reflect various disorders.
    4. Discuss indications and contraindications for therapy in order to identify those who will
benefit the most from neurofeedback training.
    5. Locate artifacts in the EEG that are caused by scalp muscles and eye movements.
    6. Reduce artifacts in the EEG recording.
    7. Discuss the application of EEG-biofeedback to various disorders such as ADHD,     depression, migraine, anxiety and mild traumatic brain injury with z-score training and
single filter designs. Set up and run 1, 2 & 4 channel Z-score training.
    8. Learn BrainMaster database-protocol for PTSD-developed by John N Demos
    9. Organize and write training plans that relate to those same disorders.

Why can't I see all of my recorded data?
How does BrainMaster software save client data?
How can I archive old files or email new ones to mentors?
How can I get the most from the review page?
What is the purpose of the artifact threshold and how can I change it on the fly?
